V!VA User‘s Description

Guápulo is a small section of Quito behind the Hotel Quito on Av. 12 de Octubre and Orellana. Walk down the stairs behind the hotel and you will find yourself in the neighborhood of Guápulo with small bars and restaurants on every corner. From here, you can catch an excellent view of the valley and the Sanctuary of El Guápulo. Guápulo offers the perk of being close to the big city while staying in a neighborhood full of charm and small-town feel.

Most people feel a million miles away from Quito’s new city, when Guápulo is really only one mile (2 km) up and over the hill. This enchanting village is reminiscent of an old Italian village, with steep cobble stoned streets, stucco houses built into the mountain side and stunning views. This part of Quito is considered the artistic district, where many artists take-up shop, from painters to musicians, many things in town reflect this bohemian spirit, including the restaurants and bars.

Traveler Reviews of Guápulo

Wicked hangout

Rating: 100%

It had loads of character and was a great spot Wednesday through Saturday. There were wonderful views of the valley; it feels like you have truly left the (polluted) city when you're walking the hilly (steep) and charming streets.
